AN INTERVIEW WITH Jay Cash, DIRECTOR
As a filmmaker, please introduce yourself.
My name is Jay, and I am a passionate filmmaker where I enjoy transforming my vision and ideas on screen. I graduated with a Diploma in Mass Communication from Singapore and have been making short films in Australia.
Why you became a filmmaker as writer, director and producer?
As a director, I find joy in guiding the casts and technical crew to ensure the execution of the film flows
smoothly from the start to final cut. On the other hand, writing allows me to explore various ideas
where I am able to bring my imagination to life. Finally, as a producer it allows me to ensure the production
process is smooth, and creates opportunities for aspiring talents.
Give some more information about yourself and the films you have made so far, about your experience?
My first project was "What's Next?" where it gathered me and my team 2 awards in film festivals.
Following the success, I then worked on my next projects such as "Allegation" & "Reversal"
which were both thriller based. These films gave a breakthrough in my filmmaking journey as it reached out
well to festivals and audiences. I won several awards from different continents. In working on these projects,
I have learnt various parts of the production process and also cultivating my talent for performing roles.

You have made your film "Allegation" which got official selection in the
"American Golden Picture International Film Festival".
As a filmmaker, why you decided to make it?
I decided to film Allegation as I wanted to come up with a story that would keep the audience captivated,
and eventually to work on a sequel. I got the idea when I started watching lots of thrillers and suspense based films. Filming Allegation allowed me to present my story and direction in a way that was engaging to viewers.

What were some of the challenges you faced in making this film?
Making Allegation has its fair bit of challenge like any film. One of the challenges was the limited resources.
As we were a small team, each had to get involved in more than just one task.
Another challenge was for me to direct and perform at the same time. Nevertheless,
with the cooperation of every team member, our effort and hard work has paid off.
Let us more about your experience in this film?
My experience making Allegation was both challenging and rewarding. I had the opportunity to be involved
in every part of the process, from writing the story, directing the cast and working with the editor
on the post production stage. As much as the challenge, it was an enjoyable moment I had with the team.
What about your Crew member of your films? What was it like to work with them?
My team is the reason for the success of my projects. There were challenges along the way, but I am glad that
the films have been completed and we accomplished several rewards and recognition. I take this moment to show my gratitude for those who work with me. Edu, Nick, Melissa, Marty, James and Bijay. Without the support and cooperation from them, it wouldn't have been possible for me to even in this interview.
For you what was the biggest lesson you had to learn after making the film "Allegation"?
Communication was the main key. I realise that being on the same page is important for everyone working on a film.
The other aspect would be having an eye for detail. Each film grooms any filmmaker
to be doing better in the next project.

What keeps you inspired to continue filmmaking?
I stay inspired to continue making films as I have a passion for storytelling. The feedback from viewers
motivates me to make more films. Apart from those, I feel honored when I am able to create an opportunity for aspiring talents as they approach me expressing their interest to be involved in my next film.
The most important part is distributing the film. What did you do for distributing your Film?
I focused on submitting to film festivals where it reaches senior filmmakers and eventually to the audience.
It's definitely a great way to gain recognition and connect with other crews and cast internationally.
What are your filmmaking goals?
My goal is to gain an opportunity to make a feature film. I want to stay true to my creative vision and passion.
With all my hard work today, I am certain that the doors will be opened at some stage. As I didnt get
a chance to unleash my potential when I approached some production houses back then, I created these short films
with the confidence that an opportunity will arise through this recognition I have received.
What is your next project?
I am excited to challenge myself by trying something new. I do have a story in mind which I am in the early stage of planning and looking forward to getting on ground real soon.
